Harnessing the Extractive Industries for Development in sub-Saharan Africa 2018 (Ex4Dev18) is a student-led interdisciplinary workshop and networking event designed to share research and foster opportunities for collaboration. The theme for 2018 is ‘challenging false perspectives in mining’.
Held at the University of Surrey, the day is organised around three panels comprising presentations from PhD students and industry practitioners, and culminating in a keynote address:
- Panel 1 Women’s economic empowerment and gender challenges in mining
- Panel 2 ‘Formalising’ artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM)
- Panel 3 The role of junior mining and exploration companies in development
- Keynote Tom Butler, International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM)
